(It’s a good thing you didn’t see our crazy choreography to this!)
Hope all of you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day – whether with friends, family or partners!

PS: Forever Dog also wanted to ask you a question…

What an amazing day for Forever & Ever Events! Today we were hard at work planning two very exciting weddings in France for summer 2012 when we saw that the incredibly beautiful bridal blog Once Wed have featured one of our weddings in France from last year!

Once Wed is one of my favorite online wedding publications, so it is such a huge compliment to me that they have featured my work. Thank you so much to Emily and Joy at Once Wed for the feature!

Everyone who knows me even just a little can vouch that I’m a real sucker for really good stationery design – in fact, some may even say that I’m a hawk when it comes to all the detail – from typography choice to envelope liners to the selection of paper! For me, stationery is such a huge part of the overall design for a wedding or event, and it is such an important investment. I really don’t see what the point is in having a beautifully planned wedding, only to have poorly designed place cards, signage, menus and programs – it will only make your place setting look second-rate!
So you can imagine how thrilled and excited I am that my good friend Kate (& partner-in-crime at Reverie) just launched her new website for Coquette Paper & Press! The site is so cute! Check it out!

I also love that she is offering collections that you can simply order off the website – my personal favorite is the “Jennifer” range. (Although, don’t you think she should start a collection called the “Samson” with a little cute depiction of Forever Dog?!? – complete with his “signature,” i.e., paw?!?)

I have to say, though, that if you have the budget that can stretch, you should really go with a bespoke design (which Coquette also offers – as you can see below). Having Coquette design a custom invitation suite for you means that no one else will ever have the same wedding stationery. I mean, don’t you hate it when you buy yourself something amazing, like a rockin’ dress, only to see someone else wearing it? – same thing, in my book!

I’m so excited that Coquette have launched such a cute new website and that UK brides and couples can order really beautiful stationery so easily now. I also couldn’t recommend Kate’s work more highly. And neither can Forever Dog, seen here with Kate not too long ago!

Hmm, he does look slightly alarmed, doesn’t he? Clearly this thought is running through his mind: “Um, where is my Mommy? I am unsure about this situation. I cannot lie because I am a puppy.”
Anyway, go check out Coquette Paper & Press – and feel free to tell her that I referred you!

I had so much fun working on this feature in the March/April issue of You & Your Wedding – out on newsstands now!

The editors at You & Your Wedding Magazine contacted me about being featured in this special article devoted to creative ways to plan and design a reception with a tight budget. It was indeed a tight budget (only £5,000) and it was great fun thinking of ways to have a beautifully designed reception within those constraints.

I am so excited to have another wedding from last summer featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and also written up in the Editors’ Bride’s Guide!

This wedding was definitely one of my favorites from last year. Not only was it – hello! – in Provence, but it was also a beautiful outdoor wedding that I designed for the happiest, most effervescent bride ever! Aneta’s huge smile and laugh always lights up any room, but on this occasion, it was truly contagious. She and Phil were just so happy and relaxed, literally basking in the sunlight by the pool without an ounce of stress, letting all of the professionals whom they trusted to create a perfect day for them – and that’s exactly what we did. It truly was perfection.

One of my favorite parts of this wedding was working with extremely talented people. One such person was Minhee Cho at Paper+Cup Design. I first fell in love with her designs when I saw her own wedding featured in Martha Stewart Weddings and knew instantly that we shared the same tastes in all things quirky, cute, and offbeat.
As Martha Stewart Weddings notes in the below photo, I created these miniature booklets for Aneta & Phil by sourcing Moleskin books, attaching grosgrain ribbons as bookmarks, creating polka dotted binding and getting labels printed with illustrations designed by Paper+Cup. The result was super cute, with individual questions about Aneta & Phil on each booklet that was then placed on each table at the reception (this is actually a super popular ice-breaker for guests and was also created for this other amazing wedding I planned, also featured in Martha Stewart Weddings
).

Another incredible experience was working with Leo Patrone. As you can see, his film photography takes your breath away. It makes me want to dig out my old 1980s Pentax 35mm camera, get it fixed and start shooting film again. Not only was he an absolute pro on the day (working so hard – as did his assistant Cody), he is also very cool and down to earth – and gracious. To me, when Leo Patrone tells you that you’re really good at what you do, that is like receiving an award!

I’m sorry, but is Aneta not the cutest bride ever?!

The ceremony was set up outside on the expansive grounds, with a simple altarpiece erected between two olive trees. I dressed the altarpiece with ribbons and fabrics and we further dressed it with lavender, coral juliet roses and eucalyptus branches. It was a hot summer day in the South of France, so bearing that in mind, I worked with Paper+Cup to create fan programs (and believe me, everyone was using them as fans – it was that hot!), with a custom illustration of Aneta & Phil on the front. The backs of the programs were so cute: since this was a relaxed wedding, Aneta wanted to have a schedule of the day, rather than a formal breakdown of the stages in the ceremony. Running along the edges was their “Boy meets Girl” story – sooo cute!

These have got to be my favorite formals ever. I love how all of them are laughing and just look so happy. If all formals were like these, I think couples (and the public at large) will stop bristling at the very mention of “posed” wedding portraits. Formals can mean you take more than 5 minutes away from your guests (and it’s worth it!), but with a great photographer, you will get amazing ones like these.

After the ceremony, guests feasted on canapes and cocktails in the courtyard. It is such a beautiful venue – I love the turquoise shutters and the iron handles on wooden doors and the weathered stone. I set up the drinks station on a wrought iron Provencal table and we sourced the jars from within France and it was soooo cheap (compared to the UK).

I also set up a photo booth station using a Provencal shelving unit and chest to display the guest book and props.

I adore the custom designed postcards that Paper+Cup and I worked on – and thinking ahead about all the times when I travel and buy postcards (with good intentions but never get around to sending them), I had French stamps sourced so that we could pre-stamp each postcard in advance. Every guest wrote postcards to loved ones (or to Aneta & Phil, which they found in their mailbox when they got back from their honeymoon), placed them in our collection box and we mailed them the next day. I also loved the Provencal lavender soaps that we packaged (with labels that I printed with the wedding logo designed by Paper+Cup) as wedding favors.

The above shows the “camera” escort cards (in honor of Aneta’s profession), on which I hand-stamped table assignments on the back and hung from a wrought-iron gazebo.
Below is the dining area which is also directly poolside. I designed the place settings to complement the surrounding romantic French countryside. All of the furniture, linens, cutlery, plates, stemware was sourced. And my favorite creation was the beribboned chairs for the bride & groom, which included different ribbons with various textures and colors (as I had done with their ceremony altarpiece).

How cute is their croquembouche wedding cake?! And them too, of course!

For guests to enjoy after dinner, I set up a dessert station on another armoire. Let me just say that the French really know how to make desserts! The pastries and cakes were out of this world – both in taste and artistry. Not only did we have this dessert station, but we also set up even more desserts on another table. And you know what – it was all pretty much gone at the end of the night!

This is definitely in my top 5 best first dances! Aneta & Phil started off dancing slowly to a slow ballad, and after a few minutes of heartfelt “awws,” the music suddenly cut to an electronic guitar riff and the two split apart with Phil strumming air guitar and Aneta dramatically detaching the train of her dress with a flourish to reveal her mini dress! They then did a choreographed line dance! It was hysterical and the crowd was whistling and cheering – including me! (in fact, if you look closely enough, you might be able to spot me laughing and cheering in the background
)

As you can see, this wedding was so much fun! While it was incredibly hard work to pull it off, all of us worked extra hard and went the extra mile, not just because those are our standards, but also because their happiness and relaxed approach made us want to do even better. It is pretty clear in the photo below that I am pretty tired at that point, but also so happy and proud! I adore this bride – she was the best client and I feel extremely lucky to have her as a colleague and friend. She is also super generous and kind, getting me a thank you gift of a beautiful scented candle from Miller Harris as well as a tres chic bag from APC! – how francais is that?!

This stunning wedding would not have been so stunning and amazing (and fun!) if it weren’t for a team of super stars. I have to give special shout-outs to Monica, Leo and Minhee – it was an awesome experience working with you all. We were a kick-ass all-American posse in France, weren’t we?!

Christmas this year was a huge hit for the Forever & Ever mascots, full of extra yummy shellfish, poultry and presents! Forever Dog – aka “Sammy Claus” – was in full holiday swing, as you can see!

As Sammy Claus, not only does he give the gift of snuggles to everyone on the “Nice” list, he also receives gifts… in the form of Santa Claus! And one that squeaks!

Sammy’s little helper, Forever Cat, can sometimes be mistaken for the Grinch (particularly when any kind of costume is forced upon him, hence no Grinch outfit here, I’m afraid), but he did love his gift – another catnip mouse!

Yeah, Sammy Claus was curious what kind of gift his brother got, and after Forever Cat bit and licked the catnip mouse, it was pretty clear who claimed territory over that toy. Sammy Claus lost interest in the mouse soon enough, as you can see…

I know, you’re starting to hum the tune to Santa Baby now, aren’t you!

Hope all of you had a fun and relaxing holiday too!
MLH, Forever Dog & Cat xxx

This was a thank you gift that I got from one of my amazing clients this year and which I received shortly before Christmas. Every bit of it was so delectable (even the beautiful packaging), that I simply had to save it and share it with Forever Husband, who has been the most supportive hubby ever as I’ve built and grown this business (guess he kind of deserved a little bit of the thank you, too!). As you can see, Forever Dog had to get in on the action and check what the fuss was all about… Other than citrus fruits, Forever Dog eats just about anything and being the bona fide gourmet foodie that he is, he gave a voracious lick of approval when it came to the strawberry champagne jam!
What a beautiful gift from a beautiful client and friend.

It would be an understatement to say that I have been bursting at the seams with excitement to share this incredible wedding with you all. But I have had to patiently wait for several months for the feature to go live… Thankfully, just in time for the holidays, the wait is now over – and you can feast on what was one of my proudest achievements of this year: my client Lisa & Rory’s wedding!

I cannot begin to describe how honored I am to have my work appreciated and featured in Martha Stewart Weddings Brides Guide and Real Weddings. And this wedding was such a labor of love. There was so much attention to detail. I truly believe that all the little touches really delight guests – and this wedding seriously had perfect little details everywhere you turned. The bride was so excited about telling their story in the wedding! From the outset, we shared countless moodboards and countless emails and chats about the little touches that went into the day. Sometimes it wasn’t easy sourcing these items from the UK (or the Middle East, where the couple reside) – and the search was always for tasteful items that capture the mood and spirit perfectly. No easy task, but we did it!

Over the course of a year, the bride (who is a designer with impeccable taste) and I worked closely together in planning a super quirky “Town & Country” wedding in Hurley, Berkshire. The “Town & Country” theme was effortlessly tasteful – the bride’s side was “Town” and the groom’s side was “Country” – and as you can see in their wedding day attire, this style was captured perfectly.

There was a lot of work involved in negotiating the usage of the venue space for this complex wedding build, since the historic Tithe Barn was used for the ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception – so, yes, that meant 3 full changeovers, each with very specific design elements and lay-out.

This was perhaps the awesomest wedding party ever! The bride had each of the men’s suits tailor made in Dubai and the girls’ yellow gowns were also handmade in Dubai by a local seamstress – hellooooo, fashion-plates!

One of my essentials in wedding planning is making the space “your own”. Sometimes venues in the UK aren’t used to the extra design work involved and doing things outside the box, but luckily for us, we worked with the venue to create a truly magical and rustic-chic setting for each part of the day. I absolutely loved setting up the drinks station for the cocktail hour – it looked so amazing!

All of the letterpress stationery from Hello!Lucky‘s San Francisco office was beautifully executed (you can see their behind-the-scenes photos of the print making process here), from the choice of cardstock to the super cute labels they created for the booklets and pencil jars that we set on each table at the reception.

Not only did we have Hello!Lucky’s San Francisco office, but we also worked with Hello!Lucky’s London office to create a bespoke canvas banner for the seating plan – it was definitely a show stopper and I know that my clients are going to reuse it in their home!

I absolutely love bringing together a fantastic team of professionals for a wedding – and this one was ALL-STAR. I loved working with Chantal Flores Design, who did a spectacular job – as always – on the flowers for the day. She really pushed herself to the limit, even running out for a new ladder when there was an issue with an existing one. By the way, that’s my handwriting on the chalkboard (in fact, I hand-wrote all the signage for the wedding weekend on chalkboards and garden signs – I was actually really surprised by my penmanship!)

The bride also just loved the idea of making her wedding completely reflective of who they were and really went to town (no pun intended) in scouring eBay for all the little figurines for each table and matching the figurines to the table names, each named after a quintessential British pub.

My favorite was the evening party – after dinner, we turned the Tithe Barn around for the third time, moving all the furniture out and bringing in beer barrels to act as cocktail tables and hay bales to create a lounge area for guests, while others danced up a storm on the dance floor. Who knew also that hay bales would be so difficult to source in the UK this year?! (apparently, there was hay shortage in 2010!), but I found the loveliest farmer in the English countryside who was a little surprised to get a request for hay bales for a wedding, to say the least!

By the way, this wedding was a 3-day extravaganza, packed full of events starting with a river picnic, barbecue welcome party and closing with a send-off lunch under a marquee. I will blog about all these other wedding events in due course, but here is a little taster for now…
Scenes from the river picnic…

Scenes from the barbecue…

Scenes from the send-off brunch…

There was one other professional who, as me, was present for the entire 3-day extravaganza and that is the super talented artist whose photography you admire in the feature – Chloe Browne of Caught the Light. I always love working with Chloe and she did an amazing job covering the 3 events that weekend. Plus, it’s always so fabulous to work with a colleague who is also your friend! She also dropped by after the wedding with the sweetest bouquet of flowers and a super cute thank you card to express her appreciation for my work on this wedding and taking care of all the creative professionals involved. Her card was so sweet that I have to share it here!:
“Dearest Mary, Thank you so much for all of your hard work, positivity and enthusiasm over the weekend. You are an absolute pro and I could see that you worked so hard over each of the three days, taking great pride in pulling it all together. Have a great rest of the season and thank you again for being such a pleasure to work with. Heart, Chloe x”
How incredibly sweet is Chloe?! And obviously all photos in this post are by Caught the Light.
And today, I had the most pleasant start to a morning ever – my awesome client Lisa wrote up a glowing blog post on their personal blog about me!

Yup, that’s me sporting a hat for the “Town & Country” look! I look a little haggard, especially next to the gorgeous bride, but nevermind that. How cute is this post?! It really means so much to me that they would blog about me for all their friends and family to see. Amazing – and the perfect gift at the end of an incredible year right before the holidays.
Please share some love for my amazing clients Lisa & Rory and CHECK OUT THEIR FEATURE ON MARTHA STEWART WEDDINGS!
